Some events from Imam Naqi (AS) life

Once an Arab man of Kufa came to Imam Al-Hadi (A.S.). Imam (A.S.) paid thirty thousand Dirhams to him, saying to him, “We pay your debts”. The man thanked the Imam (A.S.) and said, “Sir, the debts on me are only about one third of the amount you gave!” The Imam (A.S.) added, “Then spend the rest on your family and your people.” The man in astonishment of the Imam`s (A.S.) generosity said, “Allah knows who to entrust with His Message of Divine Guidance!” Then he left.

Once when Imam Hasan Al-Askari (A.S.) was a young child he fell into a well near their house. His father Imam Ali Naqi (A.S.) was praying and didn`t even notice the commotion around him of the ladies crying. When he finished praying and asked what had happened, he was told. He went towards the well. The water rose and all saw the 11th Imam (A.S.) sitting peacefully on the water and playing.

Mutawakkil, who was a deadly enemy of Ahlul Bayt (A.S.), knew of the progress Imam (A.S.) had made in Madina in 14 years of spreading knowledge. In fact he himself had to ask Imam when the Caesar of Rome wrote to him (Mutawakkil) to ask him: “I have heard that there is a chapter of a divinely revealed book which does not contain the letters (t d k S X) and if this chapter is recited it grants the reciter paradise! I would like to know which chapter and in which book and why these letters are not present.” Mutawakkil`s Ulema were confused and eventually Mutawakkil turned to Imam (A.S.). Imam told him that the chapter was Surah Al-Fatiha in the Qur`an and the above letters were not present because it was a chapter of mercy and each of the above letters represented words of Adhab (punishment) or Ghadhab (anger of Allah).

There was a woman named Zainab, in the period of Mutawakkil, who claimed to be a descendant of Imam Hussain (A.S.). Mutawakkil wanted the confirmation from Imam (A.S.) of her claim. Imam told that the beasts are prohibited to eat the flesh of Imam Hussain (A.S.)’s descendants, throw Zainab to the beasts to test her claim. Hearing this, she began to tremble and confessed that she was false. Mutawakkil then ordered the Imam (A.S.) to be thrown to the beasts to test the claim. To his great surprise, he witnessed the beasts prostrating their heads before the Imam (A.S.).
