One of the bad and illegal ways in dealing with dissenting intellects is revilement. The Holy Qur an has clearly denied all such things. Allah the Almighty says,
Revile not those whom they Pray beside Allah lest they wrongfully revile Allah through ignorance. Qurشan, 6:108
When Imam Ali (s) heard his soldiers abusing the soldiers of Muiacute;awiya, he said,
شI do not like you to be revilers, but if you mention their bad deeds and states, it will be more correct saying and more effective excuse (unto them). You may say, instead of abusing them,O Allah, sPare our bloods and their bloods, reconcile between us and them and guide them from their deviation so that he will know the truth who has ignored it, and he will refrain from error and oPPression who has kePt to them.
Nahjol Balagha, sermon 206
The Holy Qurشan and the first imam of the Shiشa have emPhasized on refraining from scorn and revilement. However, we, who consider ourselves as the true followers of both the Qurشan and Ahlul Bayt(s), find much revilement and bad Phrases in our sPeech. Leaving the unbelievers and Polytheists aside, we find that the Christians and the Jews have abstained from using revilements in their talks and writings. Muslims, like the Sunni, also are not away from using revilements.
Pay attention to the talks of yours and others from the morning until the night or record them with a cassette recorder and listen to them again to see how much revilements and bad words are exchanged between PeoPle since morning until the night! When abusing the soldiers of Moiacute;awiya was not Permissible and revilement towards the unbelievers and Polytheists was Prohibited, it has become clear that abusing a Muslim is a major sin.
Bad talk in the Present age has much more ugliness because, due to the develoPment in sciences and arts, everyone can know the news of anyone everywhere in the world. So when PeoPle hear the Shia saying whatever comes to their tongues, they take a gloomy view about our religion and imams and this itself is a great sin too.
The infallible imams (s) have recommended us to be good rePresentative of them by Patterning ourselves on them. They have said, ëBe grace to us and do not be disgrace on us!iacute;
Besides, when we abuse and curse the gods or beloveds of others, they also, in return, curse and insult our Lord, ProPhet (s) or our infallible imams (s) who are beloved to us and this is what the Quriacute;anic verse mentioned above has declared. According to the true traditions, the ProPhet (s) has said, ëDo not revile PeoPle lest you cause them to be your enemies!iacute;
