Is it permissible for woman to participate in congregational prayer?
Question:
Is it permissible for woman to participate in congregational prayer?
Answer:
Dear respected questioner, we sincerely appreciate your correspondence with the center of studies and refuting doubts (Qom Islamic seminary).
According to all Jurisprudents (Marajeh) for a woman to say prayer in congregation (Salat al Jama’ah) per se is permitted if it does not contradict with her husband’s rights and also it doesn’t include any sin. But in terms of preference (Istehbab) there is no consensus on this issue.
Due to Ayatollah Khamenei’s fatwa, “There is no problem if women go out to attend congregational and Friday prayers. Moreover, they would acquire the rewards for performing prayer in congregation.”
Ayatollah Sistani: “It is better for women to say their prayer where they are less exposed to Non-Mahram (not very near relative with whom marriage is Islamically possible) whether in their homes, mosque or anywhere else.”
Good Luck
